FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, April 13, 2004 - On April 12, 2004, Jean Bellemare, a minimum-security inmate, did not report for the 12:10 p.m. headcount at the Montée St-François Institution.

The police were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them will all relevant information in order to capture this individual as quickly as possible.

Jean Bellemare, 37, has been serving a sentence of 25 years, 9 months and 1 day since September 24, 1986, for armed robbery, use of weapons and escaping. He is 1.68 m tall and weighs 68 kg. He has black hair and brown eyes.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this escape.
