FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, April 30, 2004 - Following an internal investigation conducted by Strategic Intelligence Officers from Archambault Institution, a visitor was stopped and placed under arrest at around 1:15 p.m on April 28, 2004. Institutional staff seized 51 grams of hashish worth about $3,000 in the institution. The Sûreté du Québec arrived on the scene to interrogate the individual.
Efforts to keep drugs out of federal institutions are part of a broader issue whereby the Correctional Service of Canada, as part of its Mission, must contribute to the protection of society by exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control of offenders under its responsibility while it continues to implement its strategies to solve the problems associated with drugs and related health and safety problems.
