FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM STE-ANNE DES PLAINES INSTITUTION

STE-ANNE DES PLAINES, QC, May 27, 2004 - On May 27, 2004, Éric Gagnon, a minimum-security inmate, was missing from the 3:00 a.m. headcount at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution.

The police were notified immediately, and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all relevant information that could be used to capture this individual as quickly as possible.

Éric Gagnon, 30, has been serving a 2-year sentence since September 24, 1986, for various offences, including burglary, narcotics trafficking, assault with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime. He is 164 cm tall and weighs 65 kg. He has brown hair and eyes and has a number of tattoos on his body.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this escape.
