FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PORT-CARTIER, Quebec, July 28, 2004 - On July 27, 2004, at around 10:15 p.m., an inmate at Port-Cartier Institution was assaulted by another inmate in an activity area.

The inmate, 29, suffered a number of injuries and was taken to the outside hospital for treatment. No employees were injured during the incident.

The incident was limited to this section of the institution (activities area). The Sûreté du Québec was informed of the incident and is conducting an investigation. The Correctional Service of Canada will also initiate an investigation.
