FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, Quebec, August 6, 2004 - On August 6, 2004, Michel Grenier, an inmate at Leclerc Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died of natural causes. The inmate's family has been notified.

Michel Grenier, 59 years of age, had been serving a sentence of just over 20 years since August 20, 1993.

A coroner's inquest will be held to determine the cause of death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
