FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, August 31, 2004 - On August 30, 2004, Michel Huneault, a minimum security inmate who was on an unescorted temporary absence, failed to report to the Community Residential Centre at which he was to spend the night before starting his statutory release.

Police were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all of the relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of this individual as quickly as possible.

Michel Huneault, aged 43, has been serving a sentence of three years, nine months and 13 days since September 11, 2001 for theft over $5,000, fraud, possession of break-in instrument and various failures to comply with orders. He has blue-green eyes, blond hair and a shaved head. He stands 170 cm high and weighs 118 kg.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the facts to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
