FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, QC, September 4, 2004 - On September 3 at approximately 9:40 p.m., Jean Francoeur, a minimum security inmate, escaped from the Federal Training Centre.

Correctional officers working at the facility immediately initiated a search and requested the assistance of the Sureté municipale de Laval.

At around 10:50 p.m., the inmate was apprehended and arrested by the Sûreté municipale de Laval with the help of their dog handler. He had been hiding in the area surrounding Rivière des Prairies.

Jean Francoeur, aged 39, has been serving a sentence of 27 years and 5 months since October 21, 1985 for robbery, armed robbery, assault and possession of a weapon.

As in every case of escape, the Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this escape.
