FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PORT CARTIER, QC, September 22, 2004 - A suspicious parcel was discovered by Port Cartier Institution staff around 8:40 this morning. The institution immediately took the preventive security measures provided for in the emergency plan to ensure the safety of employees and inmates at the institution.

Institutional officials called the Sûreté du Québec, which dispatched a special squad that was to arrive on site late in the afternoon.

A security perimeter was set up inside the institution to isolate the store sector where the parcel was found. The institution's regular activities have been temporarily suspended and inmates confined to their cells, where their meals are served.
