FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MONTREAL, Quebec, October 15, 2004 - Investigators from the Montreal Police Intelligence Division (SPVM) yesterday arrested Réal Simard under a warrant of suspension of parole issued by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).
The 53-year-old man was being jointly investigated by the Montreal Police and the CSC. He was wanted after his parole had been suspended for using false identities for fraudulent purposes and for violating a condition of his parole, that is, to obey the law and keep the peace. It was at the corner of 24th Avenue and Robert Street in the St-Michel neighbourhood that investigators stopped Réal Simard in his vehicle. He had false identity papers in his possession.
It should be recalled that Réal Simard was convicted, on October 18, 1984, of attempted murder, manslaughter and conspiracy. He had been on full parole since May 27, 1994.
The Montreal Police and the Montreal Metropolitan District of the CSC administrations hail the significant contribution by the two organizations acting in partnership that made it possible to locate Réal Simard.
The CSC will hold an investigation into the facts to determine the circumstances surrounding this case involving an individual unlawfully at large.
