LAVAL, QC, October 22, 2004 - Authorities at Leclerc Institution, a federal medium-security penitentiary located at Laval, working with officers from the Sûreté du Québec's regional office of investigations based in Mascouche, have put a stop to a drug trafficking scheme.
On October 19, 2004, around 12:30 p.m., preventive security officers at Leclerc Institution obtained information to the effect that inmates were about to bring drugs into the institution with help from individuals circulating in the visitors parking lot.
Around 3 p.m., a man and two women attempted to bring drugs into the institution by throwing a packet containing marijuana. Another packet was found in the vehicle of one of the suspects. More than 30 grams of marijuana were seized.
The three individuals were immediately apprehended by Sûreté du Québec officers and will be summoned to appear before a court.
As for the four inmates involved in this scheme, they have been put in segregation by the institution's administration.
