FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, QC, November 11, 2004 - On November 10, 2004, Neldeljko Listes, an inmate at Laval Federal Training Centre, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, died at Cité de la santé de Laval hospital from complications due to illness.

Neldeljko Listes, aged 62, had been serving a life sentence for second degree murder since September 12, 1995. The inmate had been transferred to Cité de la santé de Laval hospital on October 28, 2004, because his health was deteriorating. His death was confirmed by a doctor on November 10, 2004, at approximately 7:15 p.m. The Coroner was called to the location.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the facts to determine the circumstances surrounding this death.
