FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL, QC, November 19, 2004 - The Deputy Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Canada - Quebec Region, in partnership with l'Association de rencontres culturelles avec les détenu(e)s, is pleased to invite the media and the public to an arts-related charity event to be held at the Maison des Arts de Laval on Monday, November 22, 2004.

The evening will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m., followed at 7:00 p.m. by an auction sale of art that has been donated by artists serving sentences at a federal institution or in the community.

All of the proceeds from the sale of these items will go directly to the United Way. The event will give offenders an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of society by making use of their artistic talents to assist charitable organizations.

Please note that one of the artists will grant interviews to media only between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
