FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM A HALFWAY HOUSE

MONTREAL, QC, November 22, 2004 - On November 21, 2004, Michel Hains, a federally sentenced offender on statutory release with a residence requirement, failed to return to his halfway house at midnight as scheduled.

An arrest warrant was issued immediately and the police were notified. The Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all of the relevant information that could lead to this individual's apprehension as soon as possible.

Michel Hains, who is 46 years old, has been serving an 18-year sentence since November 10, 1988 for sex offences involving adult females. He stands 1.74 m tall and weighs 63 kg. He has blue eyes and long brown hair.

The Correctional Service of Canada will review the facts to determine the circumstances in which this offender went unlawfully at large.
