FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COWANSVILLE, QC, November 26, 2004 - Thursday, November 25, 2004, at 7:30 a.m., an inmate in the general population was assaulted by two other inmates in his cellblock. The staff immediately took the necessary emergency measures. The inmate was transported to the Cowansville Centre hospitalier BMP. As his injuries were not serious, he was released from hospital and escorted to the penitentiary a few hours later.

An investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is in progress, and the Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this event. No employee was injured during the incident.
