FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT DRUMMOND INSTITUTION

DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, January 7, 2005 - At about 6:00 a.m., Pierre Daoust, an inmate at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died of complications due to a long illness at the Archambault Institution regional hospital.

Pierre Daoust, age 39, had been serving a four-year sentence since April 8, 2003, for robbery and failure-to-comply offences.

A coroner's inquest will be held and the Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
