LAVAL (QC), January 29, 2005 - On January 29, 2005, William Mustard, an inmate at Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal institution, was found hanged in his cell.
Transported by ambulance to Hôtel Dieu Hospital in St. Jérôme, the inmate was pronounced dead by the hospital physician.
William Mustard, aged 43, had been serving a sentence of 21 years, one month and 15 days since June 18, 1985, for sexual assault offences.
The police and coroner are required to investigate all cases of inmate death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
