FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM THE FEDERAL TRAINING CENTRE

LAVAL, QC, February 18, 2005 - On February 18, 2005, at 8:45 a.m., Serge Charron, an inmate at the Federal Training Centre, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, escaped from lawful custody while on an escorted temporary absence for medical reasons.

Police were informed immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all relevant information that might lead to the apprehension of the individual as soon as possible.

Since October 30, 1996, Serge Charron, aged 42, has been serving a life sentence for second degree murder, robbery and various failures to comply with orders. He has brown eyes and hair, is 182 cm tall and weighs 82 kg.

The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an examination into the facts to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
