FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, April 18, 2005 - On April 17, at approximately 11 p.m., Marco Carrière, a minimum-security inmate, escaped from Montée St-François Institution and remains at large.

The Sûreté du Québec were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all of the relevant information that could lead to the early apprehension of this individual.

Aged 37, Marco Carrière had been serving a 2-year, 14-month sentence for assault and theft since November 11, 2004. He is 168 cm tall and weighs 73 kg. He has long, brown hair and is fair-skinned.

As is the case whenever an escape occurs, the Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
