DONNACONA, QC, May 3, 2005 - On April 29, 2005, a man visiting an inmate was screened with an ion scanner while preparing to make a private family visit.
The Security Intelligence Officer informed the visitor that he was suspected of having drugs in his possession and read his rights to him.
A search was conducted, resulting in the seizure of 125.7 grams of hashish, for an institutional value of over $10,000.
Following this seizure, Sûreté du Québec investigators arrived at the scene to conduct the usual questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
Since the beginning of the fiscal year, specifically in April 2005, 401.2 grams of hashish, 2.7 grams of cocaine and 10 Ecstasy pills have been confiscated, for an institutional value of $32,041.
The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-355-DONA or (3662)) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow-up.
