FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COWANSVILLE, QC, May 3, 2005 - At about 2:45 p.m. on April 27, 2005, an altercation between two inmates took place at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary.

One of the inmates was seriously injured when his right ear lobe was split. Staff immediately took the necessary emergency measures. The inmate was taken to an outside hospital to receive the necessary medical treatment. He was discharged from hospital a few hours later and was escorted back to the penitentiary.

The Correctional Service of Canada is investigating this incident.
