FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DONNACONA, QC, May 10, 2005 - We confirm that, on May 6, 2005, Jean-Pierre Labadie was suspended without pay from his duties as a Correctional Officer.
Federal public servants must comply with the codes and policies that govern their employment in the federal Public Service. Accordingly, they are required to use the internal remedies provided for in the Policy on the Internal Disclosure of Information Concerning Wrongdoing in the Workplace.
Mr. Labadie is the author of a work in which he claims that wrongdoing has been committed by his employer the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), CSC staff, and the staff of Donnacona Institution in particular.
CSC had formally notified Mr. Labadie of the potential consequences of the publication of this book. Although his employer reminded him of his responsibilities as a federal public servant, Mr. Labadie chose of his own free will to incur the disciplinary measures provided for in such cases and to speak out publicly through the media.
Given that the Institution's management team has been named, the Institutional Head of Donnacona, Pierre Laplante, is inviting media representatives to a press conference at which he will be able to answer their questions concerning the management of the Institution.
