FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, May 13, 2005 - On May 12, 2005, as a result of an internal investigation by security intelligence officers, a parcel was intercepted near the penitentiary fences.
The parcel contained 139.6 grams of marijuana and 12.5 grams of magic mushrooms with an estimated institutional value of $15,200.00. Following the seizure, two inmates were placed in administrative segregation; charges of conspiracy to bring in drugs may be brought against them following the police investigation.
This effort to prevent drugs from being brought into federal institutions is in keeping with a broader perspective, that of the Correctional Service of Canada's Mission to contribute to the protection of society while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control over the inmates in its custody. At the same time, the Service strives to implement its strategies to resolve problems related to drug use and the associated health and safety problems.
