SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, May 30, 2005 - On May 30, 2005, Joseph Hébert, an inmate at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, escaped while on an escorted temporary absence for medical reasons. At the time of his escape, inmate Hébert was being escorted to Notre-Dame hospital for tests. The correctional officer on site noticed the inmate was absent at approximately 10:50 a.m. The management of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution was informed immediately.
Police were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all of the relevant information that could lead to the apprehension of this individual as quickly as possible.
Joseph Hébert, aged 47, has been serving a sentence of 3 years, 6 months and 20 days since February 5, 2004 for a variety of offences, including several counts of break and enter, possession of break-in instrument, being unlawfully in dwelling house and theft. He stands 182 cm. (6 ft.) tall and weighs 99 kg. (219 lbs.). He has brown hair and green eyes.
The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this escape.
