FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, July 22, 2005 - On July 11, 2005, during a security round near the main entrance to Archambault Institution, a federal medium-security institution, a correctional officer discovered two cylindrical packages in plastic wrapping.
This discovery resulted in the seizure of 111 grams of hashish with a value inside the institution of $11,100. A local investigation called by the administration led to the identification of the inmate responsible for bringing in the narcotics. The inmate was placed in segregation and will be subject to disciplinary measures.
The effort to combat the introduction of drugs into federal institutions is part of a broader initiative in which the Correctional Service of Canada, as part of its Mission, contributes to the protection of society by exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control over the inmates under its responsibility while implementing its strategies for resolving problems related to drug use and the resulting health and safety problems.
