FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT LECLERC INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, August 2, 2005 - On August 1, 2005, at 8:10 p.m., Michel Bacon, an inmate of the Leclerc Institution, a federal medium-security penitentiary, died of natural causes at Cité de la Santé de Laval hospital.

Aged 51, Mr. Bacon had been serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.

A coroner's inquest will be held and the Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
