FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAVAL, QC, August 9, 2005 - At around 2:00 a.m. on August 4, 2005, thanks to the vigilance of the staff at Leclerc Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, two gift-wrapped packages were discovered during a security round carried out between the perimeter fences.
Analysis of the contents of these packages revealed the presence of 180 grams of marijuana, 3 grams of PCP and 10 Ecstasy pills, for an institutional value of $27,500.
The effort to prevent drugs from being brought into federal institutions is in keeping with the Correctional Service of Canada's Mission to contribute to the protection of society while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control. At the same time the Service strives to implement its strategies to resolve problems related to drug use and the associated health and safety problems.
