SAINT-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, Quebec, September 20, 2005 - On September 17, 2005, during a community party, a person visiting an inmate at Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, tried to bring drugs into the institution.
After information had been gathered and a drug dog had made a positive find, the visitor was confronted and agreed to hand over the drugs in his possession. He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the authorities of the Sûreté du Québec. Charges could be laid against him. Two packages of drugs containing 29 grams of hashish and 11 Ecstasy pills, with a value in the institution of more than $2,900, were seized. The Correctional Service of Canada works closely with local police services and communities to prevent the introduction of drugs into institutions.- 30 -
