DONNACONA, QC, October 12, 2005 - At approximately 8:00 p.m. on October 8, 2005, thanks to the vigilance of staff members who noticed that an inmate was acting suspiciously, a package containing drugs was found near the security perimeter of Donnacona Institution, a maximum security federal penitentiary.
This intervention led to the seizure of 355 grams of hashish with an institutional value of $35,500. The inmate involved has been placed in segregation and will be subject to disciplinary measures. After meeting with the inmate, the Sûreté du Québec may charge him with possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.
The institutional value of the drugs seized at Donnacona Institution since April 2005 is $183,588.
The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to point out that there is a toll free telephone line (1 866 355 DONA or (3662)) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow up.
