FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

STE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, November 21, 2005 - On November 20, 2005, Dany St-Laurent, an inmate at Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died at the Cité de la santé hospital, in Laval.

The inmate had been taken by ambulance early yesterday morning to the hospital for chest pains. He was pronounced dead at approximately 6:30 a.m. The family has been notified.

Dany St-Laurent was 42 years old and, since March 8, 2005, had been serving a 4-year sentence for criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The coroner is required to investigate all cases of inmate death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
