FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAVAL, QC, November 25, 2005 - The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), in partnership with the Association de rencontres culturelles avec les détenus (ARCAD), will be holding a charity auction of works of art on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at the Maison des Arts de Laval. The works have been created by offenders serving sentences at a federal institution or in the community.
The evening will begin with a reception at 6:00 p.m., followed by the auction at 7:00 p.m. The works have been donated by the artists and include paintings, sculptures, drawings and ceramics.
All the proceeds from the sale will be donated to United Way. The auction gives offenders the opportunity to contribute to society by making use of their artistic talents to help charitable organizations.
Following the auction, media representatives are invited to visit the art department of a penitentiary. Anyone who wishes to do so must confirm their attendance and obtain security clearance.
We hope to see you there on November 30 at 6:00 p.m. The address is:
Maison des Arts de Laval
