FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES (QC), February 16, 2006 - On February 13, 2006, following an internal investigation conducted by Security Intelligence Officers, a female visitor to Archambault Institution was apprehended with narcotics.
The Security Intelligence Officers had received some information to the effect that an inmate would attempt to use his female visitor to introduce narcotics during a private family visit. The woman was not co operative. Therefore, the police took charge of the woman and, under a police warrant, she was strip searched by female Officers of the Correctional Service of Canada. The visitor had 83.1 grams of hashish hidden on her person in the form of two cylindrical packages, with an approximate institutional value of $8,300.
The inmate was placed in segregation and charges of attempt to introduce narcotics will be laid against the inmate and his visitor.
This effort to prevent drugs from entering into federal institutions is in keeping with a broader perspective, that of the Correctional Service of Canada's Mission to contribute to the protection of society while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control of the offenders under its responsibility, while continuing the implementation of its strategies to resolve problems related to drug use and the associated health and safety problems.
