FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

LAVAL (QC), March 18, 2006 - On March 18, 2006, Éric Boyer, an inmate at Archambault Institution, Ste Anne des Plaines, a medium security federal institution, died at the Regional Health Centre as a result of an illness.

The inmate was pronounced by the Centre's physician at approximately 3:55 am.

Éric Boyer, 36 years old, had been serving a sentence of two years, 11 months and 28 days since November 29, 2004, for Break & Enter, Possession for the Purposes and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. The inmate's family was present at the time of his death, as his health had deteriorated in recent hours.

The police and the Coroner are called in to investigate all cases of inmate death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
