FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ESCAPE FROM MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, April 4, 2006 - On April 3, 2006, Marc Deraîche, an inmate at Montée St François Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, escaped at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Police were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all of the relevant information that might lead to the apprehension of this individual.

Marc Deraîche, aged 34, has been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder since December 18, 1991. He has a pale complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He stands 1.73 metres (5'8'') tall and weighs 86 kgs (189 lbs).

The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The authorities at Montée St François Institution wish to remind members of the public that there is a toll-free telephone line (1 866 231-6495) that they can call to pass on any information concerning this incident. Such information is treated with confidentiality and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow-up.
