FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE UNLAWFULLY AT LARGE FROM MONTÉE ST-FRANÇOIS INSTITUTION

LAVAL, QC, April 5, 2006 - On April 4, 2006, André Séguin, an inmate at Montée St-François Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary, was declared to be unlawfully at large because he failed to return to the institution following his daily work release.

Police were notified immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada shared with them all of the relevant information that might lead to the apprehension of this individual.

André Séguin, aged 41, has been serving a life sentence for second-degree murder since January 8, 1990. He has a medium complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. He stands 1.65 metres (5' 5") tall and weighs 77 kg (179 lbs).

The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The authorities at Montée St François Institution wish to remind members of the public that there is a toll-free telephone line (1 866 231-6495) that they can call to pass on information concerning this incident. Such information is treated with confidentiality and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow-up.
