FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LA MACAZA, QC, April 7, 2006 - On April 6, 2006, at 2220 hours, Daniel Riendeau, an inmate from La Macaza Institution, a federal medium-security penitentiary, passed away of natural causes at Ville de Rivière-Rouge Hospital.

Daniel Riendeau, 48 years old, was serving a life sentence for first degree murder, forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault, assault w/weapon, fail to comply and utter threats. The inmate's family has been notified.

The coroner and the Correctional Service of Canada will be investigating the circumstances surrounding this death.
