FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, June 20, 2006 - On June 17, 2006, drugs were seized in the vehicle of a woman visiting an inmate at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, during a check of parked vehicles carried out by the Dog Master and a dog. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 77 grams of marijuana with an estimated value of $7,700 inside the institution.
The effort to combat the introduction of drugs into federal institutions is part of a broader initiative in which the Correctional Service of Canada, as part of its mission, contributes to the protection of society by exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control over the inmates under its responsibility while implementing its strategies for resolving issues related to drug use and the resulting health and safety problems.
The case was transferred to the police and charges will be laid against the visitor.
