FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ARCHAMBAULT INSTITUTION

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, June 28, 2006 - On June 27, 2006, at 8:19 p.m., Pascal Conway, an inmate at Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died of natural causes at the Cité de la Santé hospital in Laval. A chaplain was present at the time of death.

Pascal Conway was 31 years old and had been serving an indeterminate sentence for second degree murder since May 8, 2001.

The police and the coroner are required to investigate all cases of inmate death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
