DONNACONA, QC, July 5, 2006 - At around 6:30 on July 1, 2006, an officer assigned to perimeter patrol at Donnacona Institution noticed a number of small packages in the area near the exercise yard. He surprised two inmates who were in the process of retrieving one of the packages near them. These inmates were then segregated.
A thorough search of the yard and security perimeter uncovered six packages. The seizure yielded a total of 85.6 grams of marijuana and 6.5 grams of heroin, with an institutional value of just over $15,000.
The Sûreté du Québec was notified, and an investigation is being conducted to find out where these drugs came from.
The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-355-DONA or (3662)) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow-up.
