FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, July 11, 2006 - At 8:35 a.m on July 9, 2006, Jacques Reilly, an inmate at Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, died as a result of an illness at the Institution's Health Centre.

Jacques Reilly was 58 years old and had been serving an indefinite sentence for murder in the second degree since October 15, 1979.

The police and the coroner are required to investigate all cases of inmate death. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
