FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DONNACONA, QC, July 12, 2006 - At around 10:30 p.m. on July 11, 2006, a group of 16 inmates at Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary, refused to return to their cells following an activity period in the outdoor yard.

The emergency response team was deployed and negotiations were held to resolve the situation, which finally ended without the use of force at around 5:30 a.m. The inmates returned to their cells peacefully.

Part of the Institution will remain closed until the exact causes of this incident are determined.
