SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, July 21, 2006 - On July 20, 2006, Éric Belleau, an inmate at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution, a minimum-security federal penitentiary located in Sainte Anne-des-Plaines, escaped at around 10:30 p.m.
Police were informed immediately and the Correctional Service of Canada provided them with all relevant information that might lead to the apprehension of the individual as soon as possible.
Éric Belleau, aged 35, has been serving a sentence of two years, nine months and two days since May 30, 2005, for theft, reckless driving, robbery and possession of property obtained by crime. He is a white male, with brown eyes and hair, stands 6' (182 cm) tall and weighs 247 lbs (112 kg).
The Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Authorities at Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines Institution are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the toll free phone number at 1 866-231-6495. Any information will be kept confidential and handled by a security intelligence officer.
