FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DONNACONA, QC, August 2, 2006 - At just past 10 p.m. on July 28, 2006, an officer assigned to perimeter patrol at Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary, found a package attached to an arrow containing 32.4 grams of hashish with an institutional value of just over $3,200.
Inmates in the exercise yard were ordered inside and each was searched. A thorough search of the exercise yard and the area where the arrow had been found was conducted, but no other drugs were found.
The Sûreté du Québec was notified, and an internal investigation is currently underway.
The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-355-DONA or (3662)) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer provides follow-up.
