FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, August 17, 2006 - At around 7:00 p.m. on August 15, 2006, at Drummond Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, an internal investigation conducted by our Security Intelligence Officers resulted in the seizure of drugs that had been brought in by a woman visiting an inmate during a regular institutional visit. After the visit, the inmate was placed under observation in an administrative segregation cell, where a package containing 31 grams of hashish, with an estimated institutional value of $3,100, was collected.
The case was handed over to the police, and charges could be brought against the inmate and his visitor. The inmate is currently in segregation.
The authorities at Drummond Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-889-6039) they can call to report any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault or loansharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow-up.
