FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, August 18, 2006 - At approximately 3:35 p.m. on August 14, 2006, following an internal investigation by Security Intelligence Officers, drugs were seized on a female visitor to Archambault Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary.

The visitor was in possession of 66.5 grams of hashish, with an institutional value of approximately $7,000, hidden on her person in the form of a cylindrical package. The police took the visitor into custody.

Charges of attempt to introduce drugs will be laid against the inmate and his visitor.

The authorities at Archambault Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-214-7230) they can call to report any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault or loansharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a Security Intelligence Officer provides follow-up.
