FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COWANSVILLE, QC, August 29, 2006 - On August 23, 2006, thanks to the vigilance of correctional officers, 54.93 grams of marijuana, 175.27 grams of hashish and 66.36 grams of hashish oil were seized at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary. The institutional value of these drugs is estimated at $34,870.

The drugs were found in a container inside a backpack outside the Institution's perimeter fence. No arrests have been made in relation to this discovery.

The authorities at Cowansville Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-220-7782) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer provides follow-up.
