FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAVAL (Quebec), September 21, 2006 - Staff at the Leclerc Institution seized a large quantity of drugs from an inmate.

The inmate, who had been recently admitted to the Institution on September 18 following the suspension of his full parole, was suspected of having ingested a number of small packets containing narcotics and was placed under observation upon his arrival. Three days later, 442 grams of narcotics comprising hashish and marijuana were recovered.

The total value of the drugs inside the Institution is $44,000.

The matter has been referred to the Sûreté du Québec and criminal charges will be laid against the inmate.
