FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DONNACONA, QC, October 4, 2006 - On October 3, 2006, in light of information gathered by intelligence officers at Donnacona Institution, a maximum-security federal penitentiary, an inmate was intercepted on suspicion of having drugs in his possession. The inmate had returned to the Institution after his statutory release was suspended.
After the inmate was informed of the suspicions against him, he agreed to being x-rayed, which revealed the presence of foreign objects. After spending time in a dry cell, he handed over two packages containing 13 grams of marijuana and 76 pills of ecstasy.
The institutional value of the drugs seized is over $5,100.
The case will be referred to Sûreté du Québec investigators.
The authorities at Donnacona Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1-866-355-DONA or 3662) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan-sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
