FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT AT DRUMMOND INSTITUTION

DRUMMONDVILLE, QC, October 6, 2006 - On October 6, 2006, at around 12:30 pm, an inmate at federal medium-security Drummond Institution died in a Drummondville-area hospital.

Jacques Senez, age 39, had been serving his first life sentence since April 30, 1997, for property crimes and first-degree murder. Mr. Senez died as a result of injuries suffered during an attack that morning by two fellow inmates in the recreation area. The assailants are currently in segregation. The inmate's family was notified.

The institution is currently closed until further notice. The crimes against persons squad of the Sûreté du Québec is on site conducting a joint investigation with the Correctional Service of Canada.
