COWANSVILLE, QC, November 1, 2006 - On October 30, 2006, a woman visiting an inmate at Cowansville Institution, a medium-security federal penitentiary, was intercepted in possession of drugs following a response by the K9 handler.
After a discussion, the visitor handed over a package that she had concealed on her person and that contained 82.6 grams of hashish, with an institutional value of $8,200.
The visitor was placed under arrest by Sûreté du Québec, and charges will be laid.
The authorities at Cowansville Institution wish to remind citizens that there is a toll-free telephone line (1 866 220-7782) for reporting any pressure to which a visitor may be subjected by other visitors and/or inmates involved in drug trafficking, intimidation, assault and loan-sharking. Such information is treated with confidentiality, and a security intelligence officer will provide follow-up.
