FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, QC, December 20, 2006 - On December 19, 2006, at around 10:20 p.m., at the Regional Reception Centre, a federal maximum security penitentiary, an inmate was beaten in a cell block. The motive for the assault is unknown at this time. The victim was transported to a hospital outside the institution to determine the extent of his injuries. The assailant is currently in segregation.

The Sûreté du Québec is on site conducting a joint investigation with the Correctional Service of Canada.
